I can understand if you live in another country and Sharia Law is in effect as you do not have a choice in the matter. You are forced to wear a burqa in public and must follow all of the extremely sexist rules.
But why do women escape to the United States just to continue to cover themselves and live by the same rules they escaped?
Couldn't they still believe in the Islam faith and not follow these rules? Do they do so out of respect to their husbands? Do they actually believe that men and women aren't equal and women should follow special rules the men do not have to follow?
Why Do Women Who Come To The United States Still Wear Burqas?

It's part of their faith. I don't really see a problem with it. I doubt very many women in arab countries think of the burkas as the shackles of religion that you seem to believe.

Many Muslim women in America wear their burqas still here so I just assume that its more of a symbol of their faith rather than a law in their own country. Either way, I don't think its really that offensive to Americans as it does not interfere or stamp their own attitude. I have never met any girl who wore one of those things, next time I'll see what the deal is.

When you are born into the world it is obvious that as you grow older you develop tendencies that are generally conjunct with the rest of your society. You begin as a child and are quite ignorant, then you grow to be a teenager and a sense of rebelion begins to develop. Then you become an adult and that rebellious spark will drive you to do a number of things: exist fanatically within your customs, to talk passionately about politics, to self destruct and engage in poor behaviors, to aspire for higher knowledge and then reflect upon the society you exist in through a more critical eye.
What I said in that last paragraph is obviously quite simplified however when we examine Islamic culture in North America we can see this trend. It is not uncommon for me to see in the news that parents have killed their daughters due to Sharia law. You also see a lot of people in Islam who are passionately political or obsessed about the interpretation of the Koran. Then you have others who have become very educated and are quite critical about elements of Islam.
Really, Islam is in a state of evolution (while also degenerating in many ways) because it is constantly changing and it is of course at the forefront of global poltiics.
Everything I've said here is relevant to the point I am trying to make here: there are a lot of reasons why women in North America wears burkas. One is fear. Another is adhering to the social structure out of preference. Others wear it due to identity. Others do it out of religion, or to be chaste. Others wear it because of pride, they do not want to be like "American whores". Many do not want to wear it at all. Some don't wear it and are singled out and even killed. Others wear it for "X" period of time, "until the situation changes". As you can see, it goes on and on. It is difficult because they have so many considerations including very close ties like family or marriage that keep the situation like it is. It does not help that Islam has been radicalized, much due to Osama Bin Laden whom had CIA training.
In closing, it can be speculated that Islamic women in America still wear burqas because the most powerful elements in the United States want them to.
Funny world, ain't it?

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
The poor in spirit, or indigent of spirit, are actually those who recognize their own nothingness, shame and inner misery. This kind of being unquestionably receives Enlightenment.

Under Islam belief/culture it is considered a sin to show the hair, as well as other parts. It is a way to show their faith, like how some men wear the kufi.

Pretty much, it's a part of their faith so they bring their culture and religion into a new country.
The same can be compared with music, food, etc by honoring their traditional lifestyle.

As far as I know, this tradition is a sign of respect, tradition, and modesty. Just as someone from a particular religion may choose to wear modest clothing in order to show respect of their bodies, a Muslim women wearing a burqa is also showing self-respect and modesty.

America was founded on freedom (to some extent) and free of persecutions of race, religion and creed. If they choose to wear head gear under no outside pressure except her own then so be it. But i do believe for I.D. purposes such as driver's license that the face should be shown. It's in everyone's security to do so. Now in the western world if a woman is forced into customs that are illegal within our laws like clitoris removal for example then they should not be able to hide behind a "religious belief" clause when they are charged with such a barbaric crime.
